Speed the Plow

This week I finally got around to buying tickets to Speed-the-Plow. I've been wanting to see this play since it's opening, because not only am i fan of David Mamet's work, but it stars one of my favourite actors, Raul Esparza. It's closing in two weeks and lucky me got a front row ticket for friday night's performance. * note: go alone to the theatre for awesome seats!

I absolutely love going to the theatre and absolutely don't go enough. (it's one of my 2009 resolutions to do so.) And one thing i've never done was stay after to get my Playbill signed! i didn't think you were albe to? i mean, i've seen it done in old time movies, but in 2009? really? I figured the actors wouldn't come out right away, so i went to the corner starbucks for some coffee and headed back to the group of people waiting by a theater door. First came William H. Macy, who was really nice, and then Elizabeth Moss, who was also really sweet. Raul would come out soon. awesome, i'll be home soon.....but, no. As the night got colder, i started to lose feeling in my feet. But, hey, i don't do this often and i was having a really nice conversation with a girl who also shared my admiration of Raul. (i first saw him in Pinter's "The Homecoming" and was mesmerized!)

An hour passed and we both looked at each other and said, "umm, i'll go if you go." Then another thirty minutes, "well, we've invested this much time, we cant go now. Plus, what's a Playbill with only 2 out of 3 signatures?" And just when we were about to give up, here comes Mr. Broadway Actor. He was really sweet and apologized for taking so long and thanked us for waiting. i took a picture with him and he signed my playbill and i went home. Yay! See! isn't he dreamy?!! you should see him perform!

Oh, the play was absolutely electric and the acting superb! i was so inspired and couldn't wait to perform again. it jolted so many ideas in my head and reminded me of what my life needs to be about. performing and art.
