Elisa Kreisinger is a Pop Culture Pirate

I was introduced to Elisa Kreisinger's work at the What is Open Video? panel at SXSW.  When I spotted her in the audience of another panel I attended the next day, I had to meet and invite her to be on the show.  She does this really cool thing where she takes TV shows (some pretty popular ones at that) and remixes them to make more politically themed media.  In our interview, Elisa explains video remixing, and what happens to Carrie Bradshaw when she gets in touch with her, ahem, feminine side.

Visit Elisa's website for more of her work and to suggest any shows you'd like to see remixed.
Also, don't forget to subscribe to her YouTube channel for more videos from the Queer Carrie Project!

Nina Hartley

Nina Hartley, for those of you who's parents didn't own a VCR with VHS tapes in that one box you weren't ever supposed to go into, is most recognizably a Porn Star.   But most importantly, she is a sex educator and self proclaimed sex-positive feminist.  And, THAT is why we love her.  THIS is why your boyfriend loves that we love her.

Nina was at SXSW promoting her two new online ventures about, you guessed it, SEX.   I spotted her outside of the Thrillist party at Stubb's and was giddy when she agreed to be on the show to talk about her new online community, SexWise.me, and her new talk show, SexWise.TV.

Please note:  Hostess and subject are both fully clothed in this interview and, like her new ventures, is totally Rated R!

SexWise.me launches TODAY!
SexWise.TV launches Monday, March 29th at 7pm PST

SXSW Teaser

There are so many technologies, web apps, and acronyms floating around SxSW Interactive that I feel a little bit out of place at times. Everyone wants to sell you their site, BUT, I found just one that I will actually use.  It's called NutshellMail and I think you're really going to like it.  Stay Tuned for our interview with it's founder, Mark Schmulen.

Reminder from SxSW!

The MB Show is still on the road and we're having a blast, and you can now use Bing to search for us!

SXSW Teaser

This morning we, literally, stumbled upon Director Geoff Lerer holding onto the number 1 spot at the Conversation with Michel Gondry panel line at SXSW.  We got him on camera talking in his native language which we are still trying to decipher.  We'll post video soon, but in the meantime, here's a SXSW Teaser.

Road Tales - Mississippi and Alabama

Highlights from Mississippi, Alabama, and Dreamland BBQ!

Enjoy!

Road Tales - Alabama

After our slight disappointment with Mobile, our hopes weren't so high for the rest of Alabama. That all changed when we were driving north on I65 and a Mr. Hank Williams came on the radio at the very moment we saw this:

Shortly thereafter, another sign directing us to his boyhood home popped up alongside the road, so of course we pulled of the highway to check out this little town of Georgiana, AL. We paid our 3 bucks to look at photos of photos, newspaper clippings and other artifacts. But the best part was the woman in charge of the museum that day that was a Hank historian! She knew dates and times and names and places of all the Hank scandal and LOVE sharing her stories.

We made it to Birmingham not long thereafter and met up with Liz Clark who keeps following me drove down from Nashville on her day off. We went to The Bottletree Cafe, an awesome venue/restaurant/bar place that was the perfect setting for three friends to reunite and get tipsy.

The next day we went sightseeing and ate BBQ at Dreamland!
Birmingham is filled with the most unbelievable art deco architecture and store signage that has been up for decades!

Maybe I can drop everything and go back to school...
What do you think?

Road Tales - Mississippi and Mobile, AL

Leaving New Orleans on the morning of Mardis Gras was bittersweet. We watched part of the first Mardis Gras parade that started at 8AM that morning while packing up our beads. As we drove away from all the fun, we bade New Orleans adieu, but waved a big hello to.....
If ever you get the chance to drive through Mississippi, take the route along the coast. For there you will drive along the most beautiful coast this California girl has seen this side of the Mississippi.
You will also see 5 trillion Waffle Houses on a 9 mile strip. No joke, we counted.

On to....
We had hoped that stopping in Mobile, Alabama was going to be more eventful. It wasn't except for our lunch at Wintzell's Oyster House where I had cheese grits with shrimp for the very first time ever, and of course grilled oysters! Boy were they most delicious!
We stayed in a very nice Marriott on the outskirts of Mobile and spent a very long time trying to find a Ruby Tuesdays. We failed and settle on Logan's Roadhouse where our waiter was taken aside by a group at another table to be prayed for. Yes, you read that correctly. So, we got a good night's sleep and off we went to Birmingham.
